Obtaining EMV level 2 approvals may not be the most glamorous of achievements, nevertheless it is essential to have these approvals to preserve the security and interoperability of card payment transactions globally. At STS, as the world's leading provider of EMV Level 2 kernels, we are proud to make it our business to gain and maintain these approvals.
During the past 12 months, with our award winning product, Emvelink, we have received no less than 8 letters of approval supporting 49 configurations on 9 PIN pad and card reader types.
In practice this means our partners can use the full set of Ingenico and Verifone devices, both old and new ranges, for traditional static points of sale. We support Fujitsu, Motorola, Bluebird, ITWell and Ingenico handheld, combined point of sale with payment devices. For unattended fuel and toll-gate solutions, STS have also added support for HTEC devices.
For those who know the Verifone SC5000, the great news is that we have been able to extend its life while improving security and interoperability by obtaining the very latest level 2 approvals for this PIN pad even after the manufacturer's initial approval expired. This has allowed retailers to take a tactical step of preserving their existing estate of card readers until they are ready for a strategic replacement.
The different approved configurations of Emvelink allow us to support on-line and off-line terminals, with and without PIN, attended and unattended and a variety of combinations meeting the requirements of most, if not all, the acquirers world-wide.
EMV approvals may not be glamorous, but these excellent achievements undertaken by our committed and diligent development team are noteworthy. They have continued to keep ahead of ever-more-stringent EMV test plans and have yet to see a single test fail in the lab.
