Snippets

We have introduced Product snippets to help our partners and customers improve their understanding of the full capabilities of our products and solutions. This initiative was part of our transition to being a “Product Led” company.

Each snippet takes a particular topic and explores it in more detail. The aim is to always present the material in a clear and concise manner making it relevant to a broad audience. Product snippets will help inform you of new product functionality, provide helpful tips and implementation guidance.

We will be adding new snippets on a regular basis so make a point of checking back soon. If you wish to suggest a topic we would love to hear from you.

Accepting card payments on board trains, planes and ferries is tricky, because online authorisation of cards can be difficult or impossible with patchy or non-existent communications. To make matters worse, the major card schemes now mandate online authorisation for more types of card transaction. Many card processing systems don’t support offline authorisation at all.

PayOp uses a number of common, standardised mechanisms to ensure that it is scalable to many devices, payment applications and users, and to provide resilience to server or network failure. The use of standardised mechanisms mean that it can fit into existing frameworks and that it is easy to configure in completely greenfield environments.

Payment terminals are expensive but necessary assets, so merchants need to be making the most use of them. This product snippet looks at how G8 can be used to capture cardholder data.

This product snippet is adapted from the comprehensive documentation that is available in the G8 SDK.

Sharing card reader and point-of-sale (POS) hardware between different merchants, for example in a shared-use attended or unattended kiosk, is a surprisingly difficult problem.

STS’ payment application, G8, has a simple programming interface for accepting payments. The interface was originally designed to allow an electronic point of sale (EPOS) to instruct G8 to accept payments from “any card, using any payment gateway”.

G8 is STS’ payment application, which allows merchants and POS developers to accept payments from any one of many different types of card reader.

G8 is STS’ payment application, which allows merchants and POS developers to accept payments from any one of many different types of card reader. G8’s simple but powerful interface hides the complexity of dealing with different card reader manufacturers, models and payment gateways, so that POS developers only need to integrate a single time, while offering maximum choice.

STS’ G8:Enterprise and G8:Client applications are designed to allow merchants to accept credit and debit card payments in a variety of ways – EMV (Chip-and-PIN), magnetic stripe, keyed entry and contactless – hiding the complexity of the process from the POS system, and providing merchants with a choice of card readers and payment system providers.

STS’ G8 payment acceptance application has integrations to a variety of different Payment Service Providers (PSP, also called a switch or gateway) using protocols that those providers have defined.

STS’ family of G8 payment applications are middleware components that sit between the Point of Sale (POS), card reader terminal and an EFT system such as that provided by a Payment System Provider (PSP).

STS’ G8 products are designed to be used in many different environments.

STS’ G8 EFT Client is now confirmed to be usable on Android, with a few new features to help integrators with that process. Here, we explain these new features, provide some guidelines for using G8 on Android, and explain what devices are compatible.

STS’ G8 EFT client can be used with a number of different switches and Payment Service Providers (PSPs). Here, we describe how G8 can be used with the MasterCard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS).
